1. How much is registration?
Fees are set
based on the need to cover anticipated operating expenses, which include
administrative costs, uniform inventory, supplies and equipment
provided to coaches, field rentals, referees, trainer, etc. The
registration fee includes both the Fall and Spring seasons.
However, if a child only plays for one season, the price is the
same. We administer two programs, a recreational and a
competitive program.
Presently, the
fee structure is as follows for the Fall 2007/Spring 2008
season:
Recreational:
- U5–U6: $95
- U7–U8: $110
- U9–U10:$110
Competitive:
- U9-U10: $120
- U11-U12: $190
- U13-U14: $195
- U15–U18: $220
2. How long is the season and what are the play dates?
Play is presently
conducted in two seasons, Fall and Spring. The Fall Season runs from about Labor
Day to Thanksgiving. The Spring Season runs from about the
first weekend in March
until Memorial Day. Each season typically consists of 10 games.
3. Can I pick my practice day?
Parents are more
than welcome to make special requests on the registration form, and the Club will
always consider these requests in placing the child on a team,
but the Club cannot guarantee that any requests will be met.
Player registration should not be made contingent upon a special
request. A player's availability to be assigned to any team
should be considered before registering, not after that
placement has occurred.
4. How often will my child practice?
That will
depend on your child’s coach. Typically, the recreational teams
practice two times a week. The competitive teams may practice
more.
5. When are the games and how long are the
games?
All
recreational league games are played on Saturdays. There are
rare occasions when a game must be made up on a different day.
Competitive teams play on Saturdays and Sundays. Recreational
games last approximately one hour and competitive games an hour
and a half.
6. Why are all of the games on the weekend?
Games are played
on the weekend due to the availability of playing field and
referees. Also, the fields are not lit for night games.
7. Where are the games played?
Recreational Program will play at Stephanie Rothstein park on
Missouri Avenue in Saint Cloud and possibly an occasional game
in Poinciana.
Competitive Program will play at Stephanie Rothstein park on
Missouri Avenue in Saint Cloud and away games are played
throughout Central Florida.
8.
What facilities are available at Stephanie
Rothstein Park?
Bathrooms as well
as a refreshment stand are available at the park.
9.
Is smoking allowed at Stephanie Rothstein Park?
Smoking is
allowed in the parking lot but not on the fields at the park.
10.
Can I bring my dog to Stephanie Rothstein Park?
No, dogs or pets
of any kind are not allowed at the park. Stephanie Rothstein is
a city park and this is a city park regulation.
11.
What equipment do I need to provide?
Soccer
cleats, shin guards, and a soccer ball (see sizes below).
Usually, a package of all these items can be purchased at local
soccer or sporting goods stores for about $30.
- # 3 Soccer ball
for U5 - U8,
- # 4 soccer ball
U9 - U12
- # 5 soccer ball
U13 and older
12. Where do
we get our uniforms?
Your coaches will
provide them to you prior to your first game. You will be asked
your child’s size at registration.
13. Do you
keep score?
The recreational
program does not keep score. Having fun and learning to play
soccer is what the inhouse recreational program is all about.
Winning and losing should not be emphasized by parents and
coaches.
Scores are kept
for the competitive teams.
14.
Can I request a specific coach or team?
Yes, but requests
cannot be guaranteed, and registration should not be made
contingent upon the placement of a child to a specific team or
coach.
15.
Will my child be placed on a team with his
friends?
Efforts will
always be made to honor requests for placement, or to place
children from the same schools or neighborhoods together,
but the limitations of roster sizes cannot always guarantee
such placement.
16.
What's the age cutoff for each league level?
The child's age
as of July 31st of each year. Age groups are designated as U8,
U9, etc. which means ages “8 and Under”, “9 and Under”, etc.
If a child has not yet turned 9 as of August 1st, then the child
would be an Under 9 player, etc. The age group carries throughout the
entire year, for both seasons, until the next Fall registration.
17.
Does the club provide trophies?
At the end of the Fall season, the
children are rewarded with medallions. At the end of the spring
season, they are rewarded with trophies. The trophies and
medallions are awarded to every child that participates in the
season.
18.
I have registered my child for soccer but
have not been contacted by a coach. What's going on?
Each child's
coach should make contact prior to the first game. However, a
child may have been overlooked and the SCSC board needs to know
when you haven't been contacted. You can either call the
Hotline (407-932-9799) or email the registrar
at:
registrar@stcloudsoccer.com. Coaches are volunteers
and typically, a coach is the parent of one of the children on
the team. Sometimes there are not enough volunteers to fill all
teams and SCSC must find volunteers to fill open slots and this
can take additional time. Teams are formed around coaches;
however, all player registrations are accepted during open
registration, even if a coach has not yet been identified.
Extensive efforts are made to identify and recruit coaches and
temporary or alternate coaching resources are sometimes used in
lieu of a permanent coach until one is available, but in the
eventual absence of a coach, a team may be disbanded unless a
parent steps forward to fill the spot. If you are interested in
becoming a coach, be sure to fill out the coach registration
form when registering your child for soccer.
19. Can I get a refund?
Not once the
child is placed on a team. The Club pays registration fees at
all age groups to the Florida Youth Soccer Association who, in
turn, provides each child with supplemental accident insurance
and the Club with general liability insurance. For teams in
League Play, there are also fees associated with joining the
league (for referees, field rentals, scheduling fees, etc.) that
are paid by the club. Refunds are always provided if a team
disbands, or if there are not enough spots on existing teams to
accommodate those children registering to play. However,
voluntary withdrawals by players/parents after registration are
not reason for refund.
20.
Can I change teams?
Typically, we
don’t recommend changing team except in extenuating
circumstances.
If a change is
made, there is a fee associated with such a change. The fee
depends upon the player's age group, and varies from year to
year, but currently ranges from $20 to $25.
21.
Is there any way to sign up after the published registration
dates?
Possibly. And
there is a late registration fee of $10 to do so. We always try
to accommodate all kids interested in playing soccer, but
cannot always place children on teams after the close of
registration. Once the officially published registration dates
are concluded, we
cannot guarantee placement through late registration, even for
returning players. Families who register on-time are given
priority over any players who miss registration and attempt
to register late.
22. How much playing time does my
child receive?
On recreational/inhouse
teams, each player shall be give the opportunity to play on the
field for at least 50% of every game, provided the player
arrives at the playing field at the required time (as specified
by the coach) and is available to play for the duration of the
game.
Competitive teams
do not offer many of the guarantees and assurances that players
enjoy on recreational teams. For example, players on
competitive teams are not guaranteed a minimum amount of playing
time. Tryouts are held for these teams.
